A garden is most often used in reference to the Garden of Eden. Gardens are typically an earthly paradise created by God as a safe enclosure. They are a symbol of the Virgin Mary in the Christian tradition.

Gardens are also thought of as an image of the soul and innocence. It also symbolizes consciousness because of its enclosed characteristics, as opposed to the forest. Gardens are commonly considered feminine and represent fertility. 

Lastly, these places are symbols of happiness, salvation, and purity.

Gardens are used to create peace between people because they represent inclusion and community.  Spending time outside in a garden may positively affect a person’s emotions and their sense of well-being.
