Malachite

Malachite is a copper carbonate hydroxide mineral, as well as a fairly popular gemstone

Symbolism[]

The name Malachite may come from the Greek word malakee, or malache, signifying the resemblance of Mallow leaves, or from the Greek word malakos, meaning "soft". In the Middle Ages, Malachite was believed to protect against the "Evil Eye" and to cure various stomach ailments.

Given its green color, malachite is commonly associated with fauna and other aspects of nature, seen as a stone that protects other from the elements.

In popular culture, malachite is most often associated with villains and darker forces, given the gem's poisonous properties and association with the suffix mal, meaning "bad" in latin and "illness" in french.
